Biography
Four decades of surgery and teaching.
Dr Edwin Gamba Muguti is a specialist consultant surgeon, President of the Zimbabwe Society of General Surgeons, a former university lecturer in surgery and a former Deputy Minister of Health. He has served patients in Zimbabwe for more than four decades.
He leads The Endoscopy Suite & Surgical Clinic in Belvedere, Harare, where he examines the digestive tract with a camera, operates through keyhole incisions wherever it is safe, and manages complex gastrointestinal problems. When an operation needs a hospital, he admits and operates at many of Harare's hospitals, from Avenues Clinic to Parirenyatwa.

Gastroscopy and colonoscopy with real-time video, biopsies and polyp removal.
Gallbladder and appendix removal, hernia repair and reflux surgery through small cuts.
The colon, rectum and back passage, including piles and bowel cancer.
Known as hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery: gallstones, bile duct problems and growths.
Operations on the hormone glands in the neck and above the kidneys.
Groin, navel and old-scar hernias, by keyhole or open repair.
Poor blood flow to the legs, and the diabetic foot.
Swollen, twisted leg veins that ache or cause ulcers.
Lumps, assessment and breast cancer operations.
Removing tumours in different parts of the body, planned with your other doctors.

Teaching and research
Training the next generation.
A former Lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Zimbabwe, he examines doctors in general surgery for UZ, Midlands State University, NUST and COSECSA. He has numerous research publications, including work on:
Making palliative radiotherapy work better for women with breast cancer that has spread.
Testing risk scores such as POSSUM, which predict how likely complications are after an operation.
Treating penetrating injuries that cross the chest and abdomen, and necrotising fasciitis, a fast-spreading infection under the skin.
